As per a study if the current trend continues then by 2060 type 2 diabetes is expected to rise approximately by 700%.
Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in people aged above 45 years, but nowadays lot of children and young adults too are developing it. A report from CDC and National Institutes of Health tells that if the present upward trend is not controlled then by 2060 the type 2 diabetes in young Americans is expected to rise by almost 700%. Type 2 diabetes is the seventh major cause of death in the U.S. and more than 37 million Americans are affected with it.
In the U.S., type 1 diabetes is more common in people who are less than 20 years old. The pancreas produces little or no insulin in type 1 diabetes whereas in type 2 diabetes body is unable to process insulin the way it is required to. In addition to the overall study, a study based on race shows that Hispanic/Latino, Black, Pacific Islander, Asian, and American Indian/Alaska natives have more chance to develop type 2 diabetes. There are various other health issues associated with this disease which include chronic kidney disease, heart disease and nerve damage. It causes various other health complications which involves feet, eyes, oral, hearing and mental health.
According to Dr Debra Houry from CDC, the research should be considered as an awakening call. As per her, it is important now to put efforts to make sure that the Americans, especially the young people stay healthy as much as possible. According to a recent data from ADA, average medical expense of those affected with type 2 diabetes is more than $16,752 in a year. The researchers claim that the alarming rate of growth of the type 2 diabetes could be due to various reasons starting from childhood obesity to gestational diabetes where the babies are more likely to develop this disease.
