The death of a doctor, a few weeks after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine is under investigation by the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner.
Darren Caprara, the director of operations at the medical examiner’s office, stated that his office is working along with the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and Florida Department of Health, to examine the death of Dr. Gregory Michael. Though his death has still not definitively been linked to the vaccine, but that is one of the possibilities which is being explored.
The CDC has confirmed that it was aware of the death of an individual reported in Florida. The person had taken the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, two weeks before his death. Dr. Michael, who was a gynecologist/obstetrician was practicing privately for the last 15 years at Mount Sinai Medical Centre in Miami Beach. According to public records, he was 56 years old.
Carprara stated that Michael received the vaccine around 19th December 2020, and died on January 3th 2021. On 5th January 2021, an autopsy was conducted but the cause of death is pending till the medical examiner and the partner agencies complete the whole study. Pfizer stated that it is also a part of the investigation. In a statement, Pfizer said that the company is well aware of the death of the doctor that happened due to a rare clinical case of severe thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is a condition that reduces the body's ability to form blood clots and stop internal bleeding. The company is affirmative that this situation has nothing to do with the vaccine and is looking into the matter. According to CDC officials, there have been no other severe cases related to the vaccines except 29 cases of allergic reactions. The organization stated that over 5.2 million people all over the United States have received the first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
