The research states that by 2040, "the number of new cancer cases diagnosed each year in the United States alone is predicted to reach approximately 2.3 million."

According to the research, almost 40% of cancer cases in the US are linked to avoidable risk factors like smoking, excessive alcohol use, eating poorly, not exercising enough, and being overweight. However, there are still persistent issues like health inequities that impact racial and ethnic minorities and obstacles to accessing health care including having little access to health insurance and living in rural regions.
