Young men are suffering from heart inflammation after their second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S. and the number is higher than expected.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that occurrence of the cardiac inflammation in young men after the second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccination have increased higher than expected in the U.S since April 2021. The reports published by CDC were noted from two vaccine safety monitoring systems, which are Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) and Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD).
The cardiac inflammation is classified into myocarditis and pericarditis. Myocarditis is the inflammation of heart and pericarditis is the inflammation of pericardium, which is a thin double-layered sac-like structure of tissues that surrounds the heart to fix its position. There were about 285 cases of heart inflammation, which was observed in the people of age group of 16-24 years in the U.S. that was more than expected. The recovery of symptoms was observed in almost 81% of people and 41% were still under observation.
The Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) reported that cardiac inflammation was observed among young men of 16 to 34 years of age after the second dose of vaccine as compared to the first dose. The reports show that the cases and symptoms are little rare. Even the health agency is monitoring the data to figure out the consequences between the symptoms and vaccine doses. However, most of the patients are responding following fast recovery to the consequences and allowing them to live the life as earlier.
Despite these facts, CDC recommends COVID-19 vaccine to people of age 12 years or more to protect oneself from the novel coronavirus. Also, people should take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the infection.
